Overview
Norton County Hospital has a full-time career opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Manager. This is a hands-on management position at a small, rural, critical-access hospital. NCH laboratory staff care for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room patients of all ages. Our staff have a comprehensive skill set from phlebotomy to processing diagnostic tests on multiple instruments each day. Some of the testing we provide includes chemistry, hematology, immunology, urinalysis, blood bank, and referral services to help providers care for our patients each day.

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for all operations and compliance of the hospital’s laboratory, ensuring that high-quality services are provided to patients and medical staff at all times. The ideal candidate should be caring, committed, and motivated to provide quality patient care, with excellent communication and computer skills. This position also participates in the on-call coverage schedule to provide 24/7 emergency care for our patients.
Qualifications for this position:
Current certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) by a recognized accrediting agency (ASCP, AMT, etc.). A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting with at least 1 year as a manager.
MLT with a Bachelor’s Degree in a science-related field may be considered.
Some of the primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assures the laboratory meets all COLA/CLIA requirements.
Trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of lab staff; enforcing safety procedures.
Evaluates quality control and modifies manuals and policies as needed.
Develops the laboratory budget and maintains control of lab costs.
Prepares monthly statistics and quality assurance data.
Collaborates with other departments to provide quality and efficient patient care.
Plans workload distribution and makes schedules.
Supervises the purchase of supplies and maintains equipment inventory.
Receives specimens for the lab or obtains specimens directly from patients and makes quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses.
Performs chemical, biological, and microscopic tests to provide data for the use in treatment and diagnosis of disease.
Prefer knowledge of Cerner Communities software.
Requirements
