Sunflower is looking for the next class of Operator Trainees at Holcomb Station! Trainees learn plant systems, use their troubleshooting skills, and advance in their career, ultimately providing safe and reliable operation of the unit.
Sunflower Electric Power Corporation, a generation and transmission cooperative, is seeking Operator Trainees at Holcomb Station, our coal-fired 350-megawatt power plant! In this position, you’ll be in a team setting and will learn how to operate plant equipment and systems by attending generation power plant training classes for 12 weeks. Upon successful completion of the training classes, Trainees will progress through an on-the-job operator trainee program to higher-level operations positions with increased responsibility and compensation. Many Sunflower positions are part of a training program, which requires employees to advance through the department upon completion of on the job and computer based training and testing. The wage for the Operator Trainee position is $34.28/hour, employees in the training program must comply with the Operator Trainee requirements for advancement.
Qualifications:
High school diploma. Technical school or related industrial experience preferred.
Able to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends, when assigned to an operations crew.

EEI Testing:
We administer selection tests for a variety of positions. The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies. We strongly encourage candidates to review all the information, including sample test brochures, and to use the available practice tests before taking the actual test, available here:
EEI Practice Tests
Practice tests provide sample questions and detailed discussions of the correct answers. It is important to take the practice test as you would the actual one, with similar intensity and concentration. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.
Note: EEI does not allow access to the actual tests. Testing sessions are held at various locations.
